Hi,

Is $26.00 a good price for the WWII trigger below? I'm thinking about building a GI 1911a1 someday, either from mix-matched originals or a newer gun. I sometimes see parts for a certain price and wonder if I shouldn't pick them up.

Hi,

I might be able to fetch a WWII produced ('42) Colt Army stamped 1911 as a project weapon soon.

AFAIK several small parts were already replaced, so I'm not killing a collectible.

I'd be switching everything save for the frame and slide.
Can anyone tell me if those two are worth it, quality wise?
With that I mean the quality of the steel and machining compared to modern manufacturers - Colt in particular, but also the premiums like Les Baer, Caspian and Wilson Combat. I don't care if it's loosely fitted like it will be (that's how a "combat pistol" should be, anyway), just the material quality.

I quite like the idea to have a WWII military 1911 brought back to "modern standards" like the Marines' MEU(SOC), but in a more custom fashion using the parts I prefer.

Thanks in advance!

Alright... I'm no expert on pistols so forgive me if I sound uneducated...
I just got back from a week of shooting my new Citadel 1911 officers model. I have a couple problems with it. First of all, some times the spent round won't eject out of the gun, it would either stove pipe or not even get extracted from the breech other times it will extract and feed just fine. Do I need to replace the extractor? If so, any recommendations? Second, on the second to last or last round the live round would not feed properly, I tried a new Chip McCormick and a new Kimber magazines, same problem. Thirdly, occasionally when the last round was spent the slide wouldn't lock back. When I investigated what was going on with the Kimber mag it looked to me like the mag follower(?) was on top of the slide lock... also it would lock the slide back once in a while with a few rounds left? I have shot various types of ammo through it, winchester, remington, federal and even the relodes that are loose in a blue box, (real corrosive) all with the same problems. I've pul somewhere around 600 rounds through it. Sometimes I could even get a couple mags through it without a hitch. I have a good firm grip on it so, I'm not "limp wristing" it.
Other than the problems, I like it. Maybe because its my first pistol... shoots pretty strait.

Thanks for your help

The only thing I've done for it so far is to change the MSH to a non ILS MHS. I bought two Wilson mags which run like champs. The stock mags gave me three hiccups in 500 rounds so far. Got a great holster from FIST (a #19) that lets me hide this fullsize 1911 like my Glock 36.

I've wanted another 1911 for a while. I had a 3" Kimber a two years ago and it gave me nothing but problems so I got rid of it. This one runs and runs well so far except for the three hiccups with the stock mags.

I've been loading handgun ammo for about a year now, mostly .45acp.

I will be switching over to rifle rounds shortly, a couple hunting and then a few for extreme accuracy.

There are a variety of die sets out on the market (currently using Lee with LFC for the handgun cartridges.)

1. Can I continue using Lee die sets to get the accuracy I am referring to or do I need to have a micrometer bullet setting die?

2. Do I have to trim each and every case to an exact length?

3. How critical is powder measurement? Can I stay with a balance scale or should I go with a digital and a tickler?

4. Are bench rest primers that much more beneficial to assume the higher costs worthy?

5. How imperative is it that I purchase a chronograph?

6. Once the case is fired in my gun, is there a specific need to full-length size or is neck sizing sufficient?

Since I am relatively new to reloading, I guess this is a start for precise rifle shooting and reloading.

Any other suggestion, helpful hints or suggested reading material would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
